One Great Day of Service
They did it again. Armed with spray bottles and rags and vacuums and love, a band of angels from Westminster Presbyterian Church turned a little house into a perfectly beloved home. This gentle miracle has been reenacted for so many consecutive years at Higher Ground that we’ve actually lost count. They call it “One Great Day of Service,” an Autumn Sunday where teams from Westminster carry their light and labor) out into the world in various forms — few less glamorous than deep-cleaning upholstery, tackling an overworked kitchen and scrubbing two bathrooms!
The house that holds Higher Ground has been a mother for many for over two decades now. She shelters and holds us; she feeds us and offers respite; her presence is without condition. So when a crew like Westminster’s comes to us, it’s as if our mother finally got a new dress and new shoes. “One Great Day of Service” is a sort-of “Mother’s Day” for the bungalow house that welcomes one and all.
To Westminster Presbyterian and all the faith houses that send angels to us with their sleeves rolled up: thank you and bless you a thousand times over!
